Emirates

Agriculture tours to the total desert? Yes definitely and very interesting ones!

Here we will meet the newest techniques and the love of the camel milk and the date!  Falcon hospital,  Stud farms, Camel & horse races,  The United Arab Emirates is putting in a large effort to become more  self-sufficient in fruit and vegetable production on the 7 % of the country that is arable . The country also produces enough eggs, poultry, fish and dairy products to meet most of its own needs but must import most other foodstuffs, notably grains.

There is a large market for organic fruits and vegetables in the country.

The agriculture is under constant scrutiny though - it contributes to a very little percentage of  the economy while it uses more than 60 per cent of the country's water.  The UAE lost 42 per cent of its renewable water resources between 1992 and 2007.  Therefore the country has to maximize its water productivity by using alternative water resources such as treated wastewater and saline water in agriculture and new technologies  such as hydroponics and other.

A tour to the Emirates can and will of course be combined with seeing and enjoying the unique  highlights of the UAE – the highest,  the fastest, the longest,  the most unique!
