Fruit and Vegetable Market Poland: German Business Delegation Visit

Date Posted: 30th Apr 2025

In April 2025, a delegation of German agribusiness professionals successfully completed a three-day tour of the fruit and vegetable market Poland, organized by GEFA Exportservice GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). The program was carried out in cooperation with InConventus Group Sp. z o.o. and the German Federal Association of the Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Processing Industry.

The trip gave participants valuable insights into Poland’s fruit and vegetable sector, including processing, wholesale, retail, and innovation.

Key Players in the Fruit and Vegetable Market Poland

The visit began in Warsaw at Bronisze Wholesale Market, one of the country’s largest produce hubs. This was followed by a political and economic briefing at the German Embassy.

Retail insights were gathered at Kaufland Polska, where the delegation learned about local sourcing strategies, brand positioning, and Polish consumer behavior related to fruit and vegetable products.

Later, the group toured MBF S.A., a leading producer of frozen and fresh fruits like cherries and organic raspberries. MBF serves both Polish and international markets, exporting to Western and Eastern Europe as well as the U.S.

Day 1: Warsaw – From Wholesale to Processing

The tour began in Warsaw, where participants visited the Bronisze Wholesale Market, one of the largest fresh produce distribution centers in Poland. They then took part in a briefing at the German Embassy, with presentations on Poland’s economic and trade landscape, local consumer trends, and the market for fruit and vegetable products.

This was followed by an in-depth visit to Kaufland Polska, where company executives explained their sourcing strategy, buyer behavior, and the role of private-label versus branded products.

Later, the delegation traveled to a family-owned company with over a century of horticultural tradition. The company specializes in fresh and frozen fruits, including cherries, apples, pears, and raspberries, grown on 100 hectares and processed in their 3,000 m² facility. Their export markets include both the EU and the US.

The day concluded with a networking dinner in a central Warsaw restaurant.

Day 2: From Factory Floor to Research Labs

The second day featured visits to two major processors:

Provitus, a Polish company producing traditional pickles and preserved vegetables, shared their R&D-driven approach to product innovation and international expansion.

Agros Nova, part of the Maspex Group, welcomed the delegation to its Łowicz plant. Known for brands like Łowicz, Kotlin, and Krakus, the company is a key player in the processed food market, operating with IFS Food-certified quality systems.

After lunch, the group visited the Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice, Poland’s leading public research institution for horticultural sciences. Discussions included the impact of climate change on crop production, new vegetable varieties, and prospects for mechanization in harvesting.

Day 3: Poland’s Fermentation Capital

The final day took the group to Charsznica, often called the “Cabbage Capital” of Poland, where over 2,000 hectares are devoted to industrial cabbage production.

At family vegetable farm, participants learned about the controlled production of fermented vegetables like sauerkraut and pickled cucumbers. Next, they visited another family vegetable farm, a certified producer of organic and traditional fermented products including kimchi and beet salads. Both businesses emphasized quality, tradition, and regional branding under the Culinary Heritage of Małopolska Network.

The group then continued to Kraków, where the trip ended with a cultural walking tour and a farewell lunch in the historic Old Town.

Strategic Outcomes for German Companies

This market exploration trip to Poland provided participants with valuable sector knowledge, B2B contacts, and insights into competitive pricing and distribution models. Many of the delegates indicated strong interest in exploring partnerships, supply chain entry, or direct sales to Poland’s growing food market.

By engaging directly with producers, researchers, and retailers, the German delegation now has the information needed to evaluate strategic entry into the Polish processed fruit and vegetable market.

Organized by Experts

This initiative was delivered on behalf of the BMEL by GEFA Exportservice GmbH, in cooperation with InConventus Group Sp. z o.o. and the German Federal Association of the Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Processing Industry. The professional execution, tailored itinerary, and meaningful dialogue between German and Polish stakeholders contributed to a highly productive experience for all involved.
